Eccleston Steps Out

adventuring-mouse-flash fiction

Eccleston wrapped some essentials in a handkerchief and tied it to the end of a stick; a chunk of cheddar, a crouton that smelled of caesar, and his favourite thing – a yellow button. He’d not gone far when he met his cousin.

“I hear that Camembert is divine and brie is to die for, I want to taste them,” Eccleston told Ragweed.

“You’ll risk your life to taste cheeses with fancy names?”

“I do that now to eat cheeses with plain names.”

Ragweed shrugged. “Good luck then.”

“Thanks, I’ll send postcards!” Eccleston said, and continued toward the Great Beyond.

I wrote this in response to the weekly flash fiction challenge over at Carrot Ranch.

March 7, 2019, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about a mouse. It can be real, imagined, electronic or whiskered. Go where the prompt leads!
